Dermal Fillers Before and After
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal fillers contain ingredients that add fullness to areas affected by skin aging. These active ingredients stimulate collagen production, enhancing skin elasticity and restoring volume.
As a result of the natural aging process, less collagen is produced by the body. Other natural oils are also produced less as we age, which dries up the skin. Dry skin is more fragile, loose, and saggy, which creates lines and crevices on the skin.
There are two types of common dermal filler ingredients available in the industry: hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). HA is found in JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, while CaHA is found in RADIESSE®.
Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar found in the eyes and joints of the body, while calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral found in the bones.
Both ingredients stimulate collagen production in the body, but they also create even more volume in different ways. Hyaluronic acid binds and absorbs water to increase skin moisture. The calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in RADIESSE® create a supportive framework in the tissues.
JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are made of plant-based hyaluronic acid. This ingredient is generally safe for most allergies.
Your Dermal Filler Session
A dermal filler session begins with a facial assessment and mapping. The patient’s facial features will be evaluated, including the areas to be injected.
Once the injections points are determined, the areas will be cleansed to remove bacteria. After cleaning the face, injections will be delivered. Certain fillers contain local anesthesia, making the process more comfortable for the patient.
Once all dermal fillers are injected, massaged, and evaluated for best results, the markings will be removed. The patient will be given an ice pack to help reduce swelling and discomfort after the treatment. The whole appointment may last up to 20 to 35 minutes.

What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel-like materials that are injected beneath the skin for lip enhancement, acne scar removal, and to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. These face fillers, lip fillers, cheek fillers, and under eye fillers, replace lost tissue volume that occurs as we age and as a result of daily activities such as smiling and squinting.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Results vary from patient to patient based on the treatment area, daily activities, and other factors, including the type of dermal filler used, however, you can expect to enjoy your results for six months to a year, and sometimes up to two years.
- Under Eye Fillers – six to nine months
- Nose Dermal Fillers – six to twelve months
- Chin Fillers – results can last up to a year, however, a six-month touch-up is recommended.
*Dependent on your treatment, daily activity, and other factors.

Common side effects are temporary — resolving in a few days — and include redness, bruising, itchiness, pain, swelling, and tenderness.
Are Dermal Fillers Right For Me?
Fillers can have profound results for anyone. As a result, before you get your treatment, we recommend you schedule a consultation. No skin test is required prior to treatment.

What Is The Difference Between Dermal Fillers And Botox®?
Dermal fillers and Botox are similar in that they both can prevent signs of aging, however, the way in which they treat the affected area is different. Botox is a neuromodulator which means that it targets the muscles responsible for creating fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, plump treatment areas to smooth the skin, and enhance facial features.
Because these two cosmetic treatments work differently, they can effectively work together to achieve your desired results. To see if these might be a good fit for you, schedule a consultation today.
Dermal Fillers Cost
The cost for dermal fillers will depend on several factors. The number of sessions will influence the final price, as will the severity of the cosmetic issues being addressed.
